For about 3 years now I have had this dream of one day opening a studio. The notion of having a place to be able to meet with clients, store my ever-expanding inventory of props, and a place to photograph precious babies and children seemed just plain perfect to me! Unfortunately, though I thought this dream would have to hold off for at least until my husband and I decided to stop popping out babies and we could actually form a thought without a two year old yanking on our leg. Then one day whilst perusing the ever-glorious Pinterest (cue angelic music), I stumbled upon THE idea of all ideas: Just build my own studio in my backyard. No monthly rent, no hiring employees to man a desk, no pesty landlords to hold accountable to, the idea was PERFECT!
Next was the "getting my husband on board" part. Hmm, this was going to take some work, but I was determined! So I sat down, actual pen and paper in one hand, calculator in the other, and I went to work writing up estimates and figuring all the numbers out to be sure we wouldn't go completely broke in this endeavor. I was ready to present! So, I showered (a rare occurrence on days when I don't have a photoshoot), put on my most alluring v-neck and spandex pants, slapped on some mascara, and I was ready to present this "puppy" to my very frugal, Dave Ramesy followin', gun-totin' hunk of a husband! It didn't take long before he jumped on my bandwagon (yep, I have mad persuasion skills, y'all). But in all seriousness, he really saw the logic behind it and the major need for it. Sure, I loved cleaning my house 3 times a week, I was just thrilled to pull all my props out of bins and off of 50000 foot shelves in my garage just to put it all right back 2 hours later, and I absolutely adored working in a cramped 10x12 space, but I knew having my own studio would make everyone's life so much better.
The next step was to get my dad on board. He was going to be the true brains behind this operation. That didn't take much coaxing as that man is always down for a construction project. He is oh-so-talented! (Sorry for everything we put you through dad!)
Fastforward 2 months, 85 gray hairs, 10 pounds, and a much slimmer bank account later and VUALA! A studio is born! OK, so it wasn't quite that simple, but man, was it worth it! I am so in love with how everything turned out. It is the perfect size for babies and small children and has been serving my needs so well these last few weeks. I honestly couldn't have asked for anything more perfect! We still have a little work to do (mainly on the outside), but it is finally in a place where I felt like I could take a few shots of it to show you all.
This has been a major labor of love by so many people and I would like to thank each and every person (you know who you are) for helping my dream come true! You will truly never know what it has mean to my husband and I. I hope you all enjoy this little sneak peek. Oh, and keep a look out for a few DIY furniture projects I did for this studio. I will be posting those in the next few weeks.
Lastly and most importantly, I want to thank all of our amazing clients! Without you this would never have even been possible! You are the reason we do what we do and we so appreciate your business, encouragement, and support! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
